DESIGN FEATURES
Together with squats and stiff legged deadlifts, the leg press is among the top 3 strength and mass building exercises you can perform for your lower body. Although the Body-Solid Leg Press & Hack Squat | GLPH1100 takes up a little more space than standard squat racks due to its length, the width has been kept as slim as possible to help make up for this.
Compared to squats and stiff legged deadlifts, leg presses usually require a much higher level of resistance to train your quads and hamstrings to failure. With more weight on the sled, this makes it important to check the range of safety features available to prevent possible injury.
SAFETY FEATURES
Before you even start your set in the leg press, the angle of the back support can be adjusted to prevent any discomfort when lowering the weight towards your upper body. Aside from the back support adjustment, the 2 main safety features are the design of the sled and the rotating handrail on either side of the tracks.
A bar attached to the base of the weight sled frame prevents it from moving below a certain position, while the side rails hold the weight securely in place until you are ready to workout. You can then press against the footplate, rotate the rails towards you and begin your set.
HACK SQUATS AND CALF RAISES
As well as providing additional support for the leg press, this also adjusts the angle of the footplate for when you choose to use the Body-Solid Leg Press & Hack Squat | GLPH1100 for hack squats.
Switching between the two exercises is extremely quick and simple. The back support can be lifted out of the way using a pivot point near the head section, with the sled footplate folded away to form a back support for your hack squats.
As well as the folded out and folded away positions, the footplate attached to the main sled can also be set at a 45 degree angle for including calf presses in your workouts.
Olympic style plates only. Weight plates optional.

How expensive is it to keep the unit maintained? (I am thinking of using this in my PT sessions, so need it in pristine condition?
I haven’t spent any money on maintaining this equipment. I usually just wipe it down when I am done using it. It works well. It does take some time to assemble.

What is the maximum height? I am 6'6" would this machine suffice?
I’m 6’2 and have no issues. I think don’t see 4″ making any major difference other than when you set it down from a set you’ll have to bend your legs a bit more.
Answer #1 on May 16, 2016
Correct, this commercial unit would give you enough room at 6′ 6″.
Answer #2 on May 16, 2016
The leg sled would not come down once I release the safety lever for the leg press function. Do I need to release both levers simultaneously?
If I understand the question correctly, you will need both levels to be open for the sled to move. The timing doesn’t matter but they both need to be released.

Does this machine only use Olympic weights?
The Body-Solid GLPH1100 Leg Press and Hack Squat is designed for use with Olympic plates only with 2″ center hole.

Does the machine have safety rests so that if you cannot push the weights back up you are not trapped? And is the safety lockout height adjustable?
It does have a safety rest, but you have to turn the handles back in for it to catch.

Tell me about the rollers or bearings that supports the sled. What type material is it made from and does it have a warranty on this part?
They are steel with a ball bearing pivot and a composite on the outside. All the parts are lifetime warranty for residential use to the customer who purchased it new, Warranty is non transferable. Commercial setting that part is warrantied for a year.

Does the sled come down without any weights? Another words can you use the machine without any free weights added to it?
Yes, when I first started doing squats, deadlifts etc…. I would only do the sled wt. Itself cause my legs were not capable in the beginning, but as you progress you’ll want to get some wt. On my machine the sled itself wt. Is 108 lbs

"I was very VERY worried about ordering this product online. I have researched this leg press for months before I finally had enough cash saved up to purchase it in full. Even after I had the cash sitting in my account I was concerned that the product would not arrive at my house in one piece or would be damaged or lost in shipment. After looking for one last week to find it locally which was a total failure I bought it from Amazon. Once the order button was hit I received the typical email from Amazon indicating the purchase was complete. I then waited 4 days and received an email from the vendor letting me know the product was in shipment. The trucking company contacted me to set up a drop off to my house. They were completely professional and the leg press (all 5 boxes) were on a skid and banded down tight. So far it appeared to be going well however a small piece of me was still concerned some screws, bolts, or something was going to be missing. The following day my son and I began to assemble the machine. It still shocks me to the core that all the pieces were in the boxes and assembly was fairly straight forward. The leg press is SOLID from head to toe and we even had extra washers supplied. This has turned out to be a GREAT addition to my little home gym! I would recommend this to anyone!"

"Me and my wife love it, I was worried about it taken away from my core versus Smith machine squats but I feel that it works your core even harder and you’ll definitely feel it in your legs, the leg press and squats.this is an awesome piece of machinery I’m very proud of it!"

"Solid construction. Well designed for a workout. Instructions for putting it together were crap. Make sure to use the enclosed instructions to measure the bolts. Online instructions were not to scale. Parts were not marked and bolts , nuts and washers came jumbled up together in a bag. Several stages were included on each page which should have had more pages and better resolution of detail. I ended up taking apart half of page 1 in order to accomplish stage 4. On page three is when you install the press into the side rails. This is not made clear at all. And the center beam at the end is in the way. I took this apart more than I put it together. I am semi-pro at building and these were the second worst instructions I have ever seen. A couple of bolts were inside the press and were impossible to tighten without an 18mm crescent wrench, which I had to purchase."

"Takes awhile to put together. Definitely need two people when lifting the carriage in place and perhaps to hold the uprights when installing them. However, I constructed it on my own and took a little over a day. Slow going on putting together....but an excellent product. Well built, parts line up and is professionally manufactured. Very safe unit for leg presses, calf presses. Only suggestion I would have would be to have one additional stop on the handles on either side of the machine between the upper two pins to provide one more level of adjustment. At 5'-10" it is a little too much of a stretch to fully extend to the resting position. The next stop down (middle pin), cramps my starting position and makes it awkward to get on and off of the machine. Would highly recommend this piece of equipment!"

"Purchased this as an addition to my home gym. Like the other reviewers have stated it takes about 5-6 hours to assemble, and while there are no real instructions if you take your time and do it by steps as it is laid out it is fairly simple to put together. One person can do it, two would make it easier but not necessarily quicker. There were a few missing bolts of one type and extras of others but I had similar bolts available in my garage, so no big deal for me. I use it almost every day. Switching between exercises is very easy and there are several different settings to use for each exercise so you can do different variations of each one. Really like the small footprint. If you are in the market for a leg press / hack squat machine look no further... this is the one. I would recommend purchasing the "refurbished" model as it is no different from a brand new one- I couldn't find one part that appeared to be used in any way... plus you can save hundreds going this route."

"BodySolid - leg press/hack squat machine. Took less than 6 hours for me and wifey to uncrate, organize, assemble & cleanup. The package was short some nuts and screws. We ended going to Home Depot rather make this a big issue w/BodySolid. This is our second large piece of equipment and BodySolid ultimately backups their 100% warranty for broken equipment is why I purchased the latest unit from them. The unit works very well so far. I'm pressing eight 45's and like the smoothness and stability. I'm 6'5 and my wife is 5'7" and so the unit is height friendly. The pull pin is in a weird spot but we work with it making adjustments to it under the foot pad. The footprint is much smaller than what you will find in most gyms yet it doesn't want for quality. Overall my wife and I are pleased with the overall performance. The hack squat and calf press works as advertised. Hack squats are smooth and effortless. We hesitate to give the unit 5STARS because (1) we haven't had the unit very long, (2) it lacked minor but necessary pieces and (3) the cushions could have been better quality."
