SELF REGULATED RESISTANCE
Like rowing, the WaterFlywheel does not apply resistance to you, you apply work to it; you are the engine. By the “rule of cubes”, the amount of work you apply dictates the speed at which you row. From a gentle paddle to a “give it your all” workout, you are in control When rowing, remember, you are the engine. The amount of work you do is dependent on you, not on the machine.
The more work you do, the more resistance/drag you can overcome, and the faster you move. The speed which you can maintain is dependent on the level of work you can maintain and, again, is limited only by you. Row harder and you go faster, row easier and you go slower. This is the self-paced nature of the WaterRower and Rowing and allows Anyone to row regardless of age, sex, size of level of fitness.
RULE OF CUBES
The resistance in rowing is due to the drag of the water moving over the hull of the boat by the laws of hydrodynamics, this resistance/drag varies to the cube of the velocity/speed. The rule of cubes therefore dictates that a doubling of the speed of the boat will require an eight-fold increase in resistance. Like rowing, the WaterFlywheel’s resistance is increased by increasing speed. If you want more resistance then try to go faster. The outcome is that the resistance when rowing is infinite and infinitely variable.
THE PERFECT EXERCISE:

The rowing stroke uses 84% of the Muscle Mass. From the tips of the fingers holding the handle/oars, to the balls of the feet connected to the footboard/boat, all the muscles between these two points contribute to the rowing stroke.

Yes! The space will be a little tight to walk around the tank, but you’ll make it with a little bit of clearance to spare. I have mine tucked behind my couch with similar clearance. As long as it’s not a high traffic area, you’ll be fine.

Is it okay to use on a thick carpet with a yoga mat underneath?
Yes. The rower weighs about 62 lbs and just over 100 lbs with water. So, there will probably be some indentations on the carpet, but nothing permanent. WaterRower also sells a mat. Happy Rowing!

It is all wood, including the sides. The only metal parts are the screws and the flywheel. Its a very sturdy and durable wood. The entire thing is solid as a rock.

What is the length of each workout 15mins?
It really depends on what you do and how hard you push. There are workouts ranging from 10 to 60 mins available from all kinds of sources. It’s more about the effort. You can have a strong 10min workout and get your heart rate pumping or you can have a 60 min workout where you get your heart rate up but not nearly to the same level. It’s up to you and whatever programs you follow. I use Apple Fitness+ and I also follow Dark Horse rowing on YouTube.

"I love this rower- it stands up easily for my wife, and doesn't take up much floor space. You do not need a mat for it. You do need water treatment pills every 6 months, but the company provides those for free. This model is about the second model from the bottom in the line, but it is very sturdy and attractive. Also, because of the water resistance, it is not "jerky", giving a smooth stroke."
