The WaterRower Oxbridge S4 Rowing Machine is a sleek and impressive machine; indicative of where modern fitness is heading. The frame is actually hand-crafted. The Oxbridge S4 is not the result of cold automation. The engineers chose a rich and solid Cherrywood. Aesthetically this means that every model is going to vary in color between red-brown or a rich cherry red. However, as the S4 is exposed to sunlight, over the years it will slowly darken into a gorgeous finish.
Some place them in sunlight-free rooms to preserve the original finish, which is fine. "Very much enjoying this so far. The controls took some getting used to. I like being able to create a circuit using the interval setting. I've set it up to row for 500k, then it sets a 3 minute timer while I do some strength training, then it beeps and I go back to cardio. I believe it allows me to setup 9 intervals like this. I've been watching rowing competitions and rowing workouts while on the device. The look is very classy in my "executive gym", regardless if it is on the floor or on the wall. Went back and ordered the slimbeam and receiving it tomorrow."

"I rowed in college 30 years ago. I read a review saying this erg is not challenging enough. If you're an Olympic level rower, by all means investigate further. Take it from a middle aged guy who rowed competitively in college, it's plenty challenging enough for anyone wanting to improve their health or prepare for anything short of Olympic trials. Besides, I'm not convinced it isn't good enough for the Olympics. The swooshing sounds of water is much more pleasing than compressed air. It's good looking and portable...I put it up after every row. I really like rowing again. I find I can actually enjoy 30 to 45 minute workouts. While expensive, the heart rate monitor is a big help....keeps me at the right intensity. I can't speak to durability yet, I've only had it for a month, but it looks like it will last for years. I expect the screws need tightening periodically."
